RECOVERY OF PLANTS

As a result of the future remodelling of the beach of L´Arbre del Gos in Pinedo, some plants have been saved before the jobs with machines start. Using hoes, we uproot the plants, trying to conserve as many roots as possible. They are then placed in individual flowerpots in situ or at the nursery, where they are left in a shady area to diminish the loss of humidity. So far, we have rescued plants of Limonium, Cristhmum maritimun, Marine Thistle, Marine Iris and Maritime Crosswort. Plants from the area near the Gola de Pujol have also been rescued. Roads and carparks will be removed from this area. The recovered plants have thick roots which favour transplanting, as these act as reserve organs. Plants of Marine Thistle, Wild Carrot and Marine Iris have been transplanted to the ridge of moving dunes near the Gola de Pujol. In addition, small bushes or cuttings of Immortelle and Teucrium bellium have been recuperated in this area. The efforts to propagate the plants using cuttings have provided good results, but since vegetative propagation does not offer sufficient genetic diversity, this mode of propagation will not be used.
