The Natura 2000 Network will represent a European network
destined to insure the long-term survival of the most threatened
species and habitats in Europe, contributing to the prevention
of the loss of
biodiversity
caused by the adverse impact of human activities.
This is the main instrument for the conservation of nature in
the European Union, designed with coherent and homogenous
scientific criteria for all the member states.
The Red Natura 2000 will integrate what is known as the “Special
Protection Areas for Birds (SPAB)” created through the
application of the 79/409/CEE Directive or Birds Directive, and
the future “Special Conservation Areas (SCAs)”, which derive
from the 92/43/CEE Directive or Habitats Directive.
The Natural Park of l’Albufera has been declared a SPAB area on
the basis of the 94/24/CE directive, of 8 June 1994.
It has also been proposed as a PCI in the national list of
proposed Places of Community Importance within the
biogeographical Mediterranean region.
